Dr Mariusz Kowalczyk – new researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Crop Quality

On 1 April 2010 dr Mariusz Kowalczyk joined the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – State Reserach Institiute (Department of Biochemistry and Crop Quality). He has been employed for the position as phytochemist within PROFICIENCY project.

Dr Mariusz Kowalczyk obtained his diploma in biology (1995) from the Copernicus University in Toruń and his Ph.D. in plant cell biology (2002) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Umeå, Sweden. Following one year post-doc period at the Department of Horticulture, University of Minnesota, he worked at the Umeå Plant Science Centre, where he researched the metabolism of and interactions between plant hormones. His current research interests include identification and characterization of novel, defense-related plant secondary metabolites and chemotaxonomy.
